The Revolution Church Covenant

We ask every who attends Revolution and proclaims Jesus as Lord to prayerfully considering signing the Revolution Membeship Covenant.  In order to do so, one must complete a four-part class offered twice a year.  Here is the covenant in full.  We will offer the classes again in the fall.

As those who have experienced the grace of a life changed by the good news of Jesus (2 Cor. 5:21), we have the opportunity to reflect the character of Jesus through the pursuit of certain attitudes and actions and the rejection of others.  The Bible refers to this reality as “living by the Spirit” (Romans 8).  The requirements of this membership covenant are in no way intended as an addition to the biblical obligations of a believer.  Rather, this document functions primarily as an accessible, yet non-exhaustive explanation of what the Bible teaches about the obedience that belief in- and loyalty to Jesus produces.

I covenant…

  • to submit to the authority of the Bible as the final arbiter on all issues (Ps. 119; 2 Tim. 3:14-17; 1 Peter 1:19-21).
  • to be loyal to King Jesus through Worship (by, among other things, singing to our Lord during corporate worship), Spiritual Growth (by engaging in regular group studies and the spiritual disciplines) and Service (by caring for the least among us to the best of my ability and to prayerfully discover a ministry of my own).
  • to follow the commands of and example of King Jesus by participating in the ordinances prescribed to His church
    • by being baptized after my conversion.
    • by regularly remembering and celebrating the person and work of Jesus through communion.
    • to regularly participate in the life of Revolution Church (Acts 2:43; Hebrews 10:23-25; Titus 3:14).
    • to steward the resources God has given me, including time, talents, spiritual gifts and finances. This includes regular financial giving, service and participation in the wider Kingdom of God that is sacrificial, cheerful and voluntary (Matt. 25:14-30; Rom. 12:1-2; 2 Cor. 8-9; 1 Pet. 4:10-11).
    • by God’s grace through the power of the Holy Spirit, to walk in holiness in all areas of life as an act of worship to King Jesus (1 Pet. 1:13-16, 4:1-3).
    • to refrain from such activities that the Bible would deem foolish (Rom. 14:14-23).
    • to take seriously the responsibility of Christian freedom, especially the actions or situations that could present a stumbling block to another (1 Cor. 8:1-13).
    • to do the following when I sin:
      • confess my sin to God and, if necessary, to fellow believers.
      • repent and seek help to put my sin to death (Rom. 8:13; Col. 3:5; James 5:16; 1 John 1:6-10).
      • to submit to Christian leaders that God has appointed and to strive for unity and peace within the Church (Eph. 4:1-3; Heb. 13:17; 1 Pet. 5:5).

Revolution Church: Worship – Grow – Serve

The Book of Revelation Sermon Series Begins This Week

Beginning February 21st, Revolution Church will begin a 12-week study of the Book of Revelation entitled “A Kingdom vs. an Empire.”

The first sermon asks “Can We Understand the Book of Revelation?”

We only cover a few verses this week but prepare yourselves because we will be ingesting several chapters a week until May.

Start reading Revelation now and read it as many times as possible in as many different translations (check out for different versions online).

Here is what we will cover this week:

1:1 The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. 3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.

Until next week, grace and peace.

Pastor Matt
